While doing household chores the other day, the label on my toilet bowl cleaner caught my eye. There, proclaimed in bright cheerful colors was the assurance that this toilet bowl cleaner "Kills Flu Virus."
Upon reading this, I had two immediate concerns. First, I was unaware that my toilet bowl was a breeding ground for the flu virus. I could certainly imagine that it is a cesspool of other germs, but the flu virus had never factored in before.
Second, and much more importantly, I was unaware that it was possible to catch the flu, a respiratory infection, from the inside of my toilet bowl. My mind immediately began to concoct scenarios in which I might catch the flu from my toilet. Luckily, because I used this toilet bowl cleaner, if a burglar ever did break into my house and give me a swirly in my own toilet, I could at least rest assured that I would be flu-free after the incident (unless the burglar had the flu, then all bets are off).
This whole experience has made me wonder what other diseases may be lurking in unexpected places in my home. As I sit here looking at all the sinister appliances in my kitchen, I have to ask myself, "could my oven give me a STD?" I think I'll play it safe and put condoms on my fingers next time I use it.
