So, I'm finally beginning to settle in to my new apartment out here in Norwalk, CT. In between moving boxes from my temporary residence to the new place, I've been tackling small projects around the apartment--replacing the light fixtures out front, fixing the bathroom faucet, and today, cleaning the windows.
Window cleaning is not the most exciting thing in the world, but two things make this worthy of note. First, I only used warm vinegar water and newspaper. Second, I finally found a use for the New York Tiimes.
The method is simple. I dipped a sheet into the vinegar water to get it a little wet, and then wiped down the window to scrub off the dirt. Then I used a dry sheet of newspaper to buff the surface dry. It is the second half of this technique that is key--you could probably use a sponge for the first step if you wanted to. By using a firm circular motion, you scour any of the dirt residue off of the glass while the newspaper slowly absorbs the water. You are left with a crystal clear, streak-free window. And the best part, no need to buy window cleaners, which can contain ammonia and other chemicals that you may not want around the house or in the air you breathe.
(Sorry, no pictures. My camera has not yet made the move to my new place.)
